How We Review
This page explains how we create the guides, comparisons and reviews on Mikado - Board Games & Game Night Guides.
Research, not lab testing
Our guides are research-based: we compile and compare publicly available information, including official websites and documentation, reputable publications and organizations, and patterns across independent expert and user reviews.
What we look at
- How easy the game is to learn and teach
- Player count, play time and the age range it really works for
- Component quality and value for money
- Replayability and how it holds up after many plays
- The consensus of experienced players and reputable reviewers
Keeping guides up to date
Things change quickly. We revisit our guides periodically and update them when important details change. The “Updated” date at the top of each article shows when it was last revised.

Recommendations are never sold. Affiliate commissions, where they exist, do not influence what we recommend or in what order. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
